Good morning, loveliesss!!!!
Today I want to share with you the trip that I took yesterday to the University of Pittsburgh! For those of you who do not know, I have moved from New Brunswick, New Jersey at Rutgers University to pursue the rest of my college career at the University of Pittsburgh! I have been eyeing down this campus for a while for several reasons: 1) The University of Pittsburgh has an excellent pharmacy and PharmD program (better than my former pharmacy program) ranked #17 in the country, 2) It is a smaller campus than Rutgers University (in its radius) with a better student/faculty ratio, 3) It is a nationally accredited institution and renowned research university in big city with many co-op, internship, and job placement opportunities, 4) It has an excellent Biochemistry undergrad degree option, a Nursing School, Bioengineering Masters/PhD program (what Vince is considering in his future), Graduate school, and a School of Medicine (lots of options here!), 5) and I will save $8,000+ on room and board a year by living with family instead of on-campus!
Currently I am attaining residency of PA, until my first semester as a transfer student at Pitt begins. I am enrolled full-time at the Community College of Allegheny County taking enough classes to be considered full-time that will be applied to my degree program at Pitt for a lower price. I am scheduled to begin my transfer program at the University of Pittsburgh in the Spring of 2013- when I will become an official resident of PA- which will save me over $8,000 a year in tuition costs!
Below are some pics of my trip. ;-)
Enjoy! :-)
My 5'1'' mom...walking to class like a little student. Priceless! Haha!
The scenery is beautiful in Oakland (where Pitt's main campus is). This is a tree in front of a house in a close-by residential area! :-)
Spring tulips for your enjoyment!
Here we are approaching the Cathedral of Learning. The COL is one of the buildings owned by Pitt and is the second tallest education building in the world!
I have come to the conclusion that this is how Pitt has kept the radius of their campus so small.
Here is a pic that I snapped of Langley Hall. LH is one of the builings on Pitt's campus that houses
Chemistry labs pertinent to my degree program!
This is the entrance walkway of Alumni Hall- where my Tranfer Friday event was going down. I had to go up to the 7th floor for one of the meetings. Haha!
Here is a pic of the University of Pittsburgh's fabulous persuasive video to make you want to join their school. I have come to realize that all universities engage in this practice.
Yes, I take notes at campus events. :-o
This was the Transfer Information session. The woman on the podium talked about all degree program options offered for transfer students at Pitt, steps that need to be taken to apply for certain schools within the university, and opportunities available. :-) There was also a current student Q/A session after this!
Here is a pic of the sign outside of the meeting on the 7th floor!
Here is the COD up close. It is much less intimidating in its size when viewing it in person. Haha!
This is a special building to the University of Pittsburgh, funded by Heinz (a food corporation with roots based in Pittsburgh. Hence, the red doors!). Apparently several people have requested to get married here (Pitt graduates/lovebirds and faculty I am assuming...) for a small fee when it opens up for public use once a year. Interesting!
Here are balloons outside Alumni Hall. I think they were excited to see us! Haha!
This is a pic of my mother and I approaching the Litchfield Towers. The LT's are 2 skyscraper residence halls owned by Pitt that house one of their bigger food courts. I took her here for lunch. :-)
Here is a pic of the Alumni Hall sign that I snapped later on, because I missed it earlier.
This is our walk as we approach the LF Towers.
Some Oakland inner city traffic at 2:30pm. Not bad, right?!
Another residence hall. For those wondering, campus housing at Pitt's Oakland campus is extremely limited. Kudos for living with loved ones! :-) Haha!
Here is a pic that I have snapped of one of the city's many Port Authority buses (over to the right). For those who are ever considering Pitt as a school, all students get free public transportation fares by showing their PittID!
My mom, texting. Such a free spirit...
Here is one of the book stores. I did not make a purchase but they had excellent books about Cancer medicine and research for future reference!
This is a pic of the food court inside the LF Towers. They have excellent food with tons of options. A saute bar, fresh salad, wraps, sandwiches, grilled food, desserts, drink fountains...etc.
Here is my mom's lunch. Haha!
The happy student. :-o
Free stuff. I love this about signing up for campus events.
Look at this beauty here, people. Rutgers...you need to fix your situation!
Aww. A tulip garden!
The bus stop at the Cathedral of Learning.
Here is a pic of the Biological sciences and Biochemistry buildings. This is where the second bulk of my classes will be!
A hallway.
Getting a little dangerous, as usual. ;-) Haha!
Here is a pic of one of the LF Towers as we drive away. It is quite, tower-ish...
Wall sculpture. One of Pittsburgh's many public art displays.
Up this street is where you go to get the the Medical School/med. classes! :-)
One of Pitt's many medical buildings!
More med. and Bioengineering facilities. :-)
Some scenery. :-)
One of the narrow streets leading to another residential area! And a cutie mail man. <3
Here we are leaving! :-(
Just over this hill is the field for Duquesne University- a private university near Pitt!
And up over this hill (or mountain...) is Carnegie Mellon University! CM is also a private university (an excellent school for engineering BTW), and is adjacent to Pitt. :-) Pitt offers any classes that are not offered at its institution (i.e. Robotics) to be taken at CM for Pitt's tuition!
Some Pittsburgh apartment complex architecture. Pretty!
Bridges...
Here is a pic that I took of PPG industries (the spiked tall building in the center). When Vince first flew out to Pittsburgh for a business opportunity he was interviewed there! One of the Batman movies was filmed there by the way. Haha!
The Ohio River!
Some Pittsburgh buildings and scenery!
Train station.
We passed Five guys (Vince's fav. place to get a burger!) Haha!
And a FOTD just to make you smile! :-)
I love you all!
