DIY Quick sugar body scrub!

Good morning, ladiessss! Yes, this post is for you! :-)

Today I want to share with you a recipe dupe that I have been using for years for store-bought sugar body scrub! Now I looove a luxurious shower. Whether it's 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 15 minutes, I am in love with good hygiene. I am also a firm believer in everyday maintenance as opposed to 3-4 times out of the week, and exfoliation is no exception!

This recipe is simple and can be made with only three ingredients. Use this every other day on your entire body and say hello to Skintimately smooth skin! :-) If you're one that does not care much for moisturized skin, just do your body wash routine after you use your body scrub, and the oil will wash away! :-)

I also encourage you to get creative and switch up the recipe, or add your own combo of essential oils!

Ingredients:

  • 1  1/2 c.'s sugar (regular refined, white sugar).

Refined, white sugar is great for this because of it's smooth, refined texture. It is just grainy enough to throroughly remove dead skin, yet gentle enough to use everyday or every other day for exfoliation. :-)

  • Enough extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, regular olive oil, canola oil, almond oil, or sunflower seed oil to bring your mixture to a thick, grainy, and dampened consistency.

You can use any oil that you have on hand. I prefer to use Grapeseed oil or Almond oil, but since olive oil is the only suitable oil that I had in my kitchen this month, the scrub that is currently in my shower has olive oil in it! :-)

  • 1 small squeeze or 1 tsp. of bottled or fresh lemon juice.

For those of you who do not already know, lemon juice acts as a natural preservative! Have you ever seen "ascorbic acid (to preserve freshness)" written on a food or beauty product label that you have purchased? Ascorbic acid is what gives lemons their bitter flavor. It is also the common scientific name for Vitamin C, and is used in many commercial goods to naturally preserve shelf-life!

Directions:

1) Pour your sugar into a small re-usable container that comes with a lid.

2) Slowly pour in your oil, mixing thoroughly with a spoon until desired consistency is achieved.

3) Squeeze or pour 1 tsp. of lemon juice into the mixture and stir until blended.

Tips:

  • For a more aromatic experience, you can switch your regular white sugar to brown sugar & add 1 tsp. of vanilla extract!
  • Feel free to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil(s) if you choose to stick with white sugar. :-) You can find essential oils at some health food stores, Target (look for the brand "Weleda" in the natural beauty products section), or you can purchase them online for great affordable prices. I happen to have some on hand at all times because my mother has been making aromatherapy medicinal oils for years, but do not hesitate to get a few of your own! :-) My personal favorites for scrubs are lavender, wild rose, citrus, & birch oil.

  • You can use this as a lip scrub too! ;-)

Try it out!

Have a wonderful day!

Xo- Jess
